The Goblin Market by Christina Rossetti is a fairy tale about two sisters who run across goblin vendors who offer them enticing fruits and ask them to test, taste, and touch them. A friend had previously fallen prey to their seductive charm and after tasting them, slowly withered away to death. One sister, who is paying attention to the warning indications, entreats the other sister to follow her home and reject the alluring lures of the persistent, persuasive goblins who make such grand promises. But, the second sister insists on learning more, and despite her admission that she is in need of money, they only take a lock of her golden hair in exchange. She enjoys the fruit flavors and takes a bite.
