520 _2Nagaland Board of School Education has revised its English Language Curriculum for Class XI beginning with the academic session 2012-13. The emphasis has now been shifted to introduce a more user-friendly method of teaching and learning English rather than employing a precriptive approach to language teaching and learning. Accordingly, Changes have been made in the methodology and testing pattern. The course materials for Class 11 now cmprise a literature Reader and a main Coursebook. The Literature Reader features level appropriate reading challenges, enhancing the language competence of the students by providing ample exposure to language. The main Coursebook focuses on the real-world needs of young learners and to address their academic, linguistic, and emotional development gaps. These challenges are based on the outcome of a five-year project. The project was taken up by the board in collaboration with selective project officers. The project has developed new learning materials and evaluation procedures for NBSE. In the Course of the Project, over 100 NBSE school teachers were trained in the skills of syllabus design and development of learning material. This is perhaps the first time in the recent history of nagaland that practicing classroom teachers have played such a significant role in curriculum change.
